As a mountain terroir, the Two Moon Vineyard is a combination of gravelly soil, south-facing terraced slopes, warm days, and a persistently cool evening airflow, perfect conditions for producing healthy, intensely flavored fruit. To make our 2004 Reserve Merlot, we blended fruit from this vineyard - the highest in the Dry Creek appellation, with the lush velvety fruit from our estate vineyard. The result is an elegant wine with an unusually lush silky texture. The “hands-off” farming methods Stan Simpson, Two Moon vineyard owner, and the “let-it-shine” style of Tim Hardin, our winemaker, perfectly complement each other.
On the palate, flavors of licorice, vanilla, and blackcurrant are nicely balanced with food-enhancing acidity and a rounded buttery finish. Try our Reserve Merlot with rich French sauces, pasta, lamb shanks, or charbroiled steaks. But it goes with a blood-red sunset viewed from a ridge top high above the fog line .. A place where this merlot feels most at home. Drink now through 2015.
