This wine was produced from the fruit of two different vineyards both of which are located on Olivet Lane in the Russian River Valley. The vineyards are known as Papera and Barbieri. Papera was planted in 1934 and is 100% Zinfandel while Barbieri is a “field blend” that was planted in 1905. Although Zinfandel is the predominate variety at Barbieri, there are many others such as Alicante & Grenache that make up the balance of this unique vineyard.
On the nose, old vine fruit shines through with complex flavors of cherries, black plums, and licorice. The palate is rich and concentrated and is nicely framed with a hint of sweet toasty oak. Although this wine is big-bodied, the smooth tannins make a soft, balanced and fabulous finish!
Wonderful alone, or with grilled vegetables, chicken or ribs.
