This wine is a true reflection of the Cabernet Sauvignon grape and the vineyard from where it was grown. That vineyard is known as Monte Rosso and it is one of the oldest and most celebrated vineyards in Sonoma County. Perched upon the Mayacamas range at over 1000’ elevation, it is named for its distinct red soil comprised of mineral-rich decomposed volcanic rock. Difficult growing conditions and low yields produce grapes of uncommon character and result in fabulous, age-worthy wines. 2002 was another stellar vintage here on the north coast of California. This wine is darkly colored, richly textured, plush and loaded with rich, ripe fruit. It opens to aromas of blackberry, cherries, and a core of currants with a hint of minty spice and vanillin. Velvety and thick on the finish, it is framed by a touch of toasted oak. Monte Rosso designated Cabernet Sauvignon is our flagship wine and we are proud to share with you this 2002 version.
